T-magazine: International Edition Launch

For the past two years, t-Magazine has been a small, independent grassroots project for tea culture, originally available solely in German. Now, it extends its reach to a global audience, capturing the essence of Europe's vibrant tea scene in its first international edition in English. Wanderlustea is thrilled to announce our sponsorship and collaboration with t-Magazine on its inaugural international edition, a milestone in the world of tea enthusiasts.

This edition features a comprehensive 40-page cover story titled "Europe's New Tea Culture," inviting you on a Grand Tour of diversitea in prominent European cities where tea harmonizes with Asian traditions amidst Western modernism. Embark on a journey through the lively streets of Paris with its classy art de vivre tea rooms, the bohemian tea houses of Prague, the modern tea labs of Helsinki, and the artistic tea culture hubs of Amsterdam, Riga, Copenhagen, Berlin, London, Kyiv, and beyond, as we uncover how tea has intricately woven itself into the fabric of these vibrant urban landscapes. From traditional tea ceremonies to modern cutting-edge brewing styles, this feature provides a captivating glimpse into the dynamic evolution of tea across the continent.

But that's not all. The international edition also brings translated gems from past German releases, including insights into Taiwan's tea traditions, the delicate art of jasmine tea, and the allure of Japanese wood-ash-fired ceramics. Dive deep into the biochemistry of L-theanine, uncover the secrets of the Japanese tea ceremony through insightful interview with Tyas Sōsen, and embark on a visual journey through Taiwan's rich tea landscape of artisanal oolong production.

Let's introduce you to the masterminds behind t-Magazine, starting with Olaf Tarmas, a journalist and tea enthusiast whose profound love for tea ignited the inception of this remarkable publication. Olaf's journey with tea began at a young age when, during his studies, he immersed himself in the world of tea while working at a local tea shop in Hamburg. His true revelation came in 2011 during a research expedition to Taiwan, where he was introduced to the intricacies of Chinese tea culture. Following explorations along the Black Sea, in Laos, and in East Frisia, Olaf's passion for travel, writing, and tea culminated in the founding of his very own tea magazine.

Joining him are Katja Kleinebrecht, the art director and designer, Bertram Weiß as the head of text, Alexander Ludwig as the international project developer, Isabell Aue handling online marketing, and Odile Hain, a talented reportage photographer who traversed to Prague, Amsterdam, and various other locales for the international magazine. This diverse team is bound together by their shared passion for tea and unwavering commitment to excellence. Additionally, we've had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed contributors for the English edition magazine: Marten Verch, representing the German Tea Association and authoring "The Effects of L-Theanine" in this issue; Maria-Bettina Eich, a freelance writer for t-magazine, who journeyed to Paris and Riga for this edition, and eloquently explored tasting a diverse range of jasmine tea; and Lorela Lohan from Wanderlustea.

As a member of the European Specialty Tea Association (ESTA) and as a tea business consultant with her company Wanderlustea, she advises tea lovers and business clients throughout Europe. In January 2024 she became a member of the 't Circle,' the support group of t-magazine."
